Meet the Women

A future as seen from their eyes

  1. They wish to be trained more in paramedical techniques and nutritional information pertaining to pregnancy

  2. They want women to go to the hospital more often instead of solely relying on home-concocted cures

  3. They want to be trained enough to be able to safely perform a delivery in the Wadaj community if incase a woman went into unexpected labour

  4. They want women to be empowered and aware, especially about the fact that it is not necessary anymore to keep having kids to have a male child when a girl today, with the right education, can earn comparable sums of money as contribution to her family

Arunaben is from Ranip, Gujarat and has been a hard-working member of Anganwadi for 12 years. She recently started working in the women's health sector since the last 3 years. She is a firm advocate for proper hygiene and sanitation in the slum area. She says that the Government often works only to clean up the public places that readily meet the eye. But what about inside the slums where people live among overflowing gutters and animal faeces? She hopes to play an instrumental role in spreading awareness about hygiene to the women of Wadaj because she believes that it will be the women who will finally bring in change.

She hopes that the community around her can become more aware about pregnancy in general and do not believe baseless superstitions anymore that can do much more harm than any good.

Nanduben is born and raised in Ahmedabad and has been making a contribution to the Wadaj and Anganwadi community for 25 years.
